What is Turmeric?
Turmeric is a plant, the root of which has been used in India for centuries as a spice and medicinal herb. It is the spice that gives curry its vibrant yellow color. This Golden spice has been traditionally used in Ayurveda (the Indian system of holistic medicine) to treat various ailments, including cancer and has now been backed by several research. Curcumin, the active ingredient of turmeric, has been extensively
studied in the past few decades for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It has such powerful anti-inflammatory properties that it matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs, without the side effects! This is simply amazing!!
Role of black pepper for turmeric absorption/ black pepper is absolutely important for turmeric absorption! Does black pepper help absorb turmeric better? Absolutely!
Turmeric/curcumin is such a powerful spice but unfortunately it is very poorly absorbed by our bodies. Various research has shown that black pepper, which contains piperine, enhances the absorption of curcumin by up to 2000 times! What a relief!! This does not mean that you have to overload your turmeric with black pepper. Just a small but right amount of black pepper does the trick.
What is Golden Milk?
Turmeric has been used as a spice and herbal medicine for centuries in India and other south Asian countries. A little bit of fat is known to help increase the absorption of turmeric. Hence, traditionally turmeric has been enjoyed in a warm cup of milk with some black pepper and honey and is called “haldi doodh” (turmeric milk) or golden milk. Fat from the milk does the trick! In my opinion, this is the easiest way to incorporate turmeric in your daily routine to reap its health benefits! Just mix our Golden Milk mix, sweetener of your choice (optional) into your favorite dairy/ non-dairy beverage and enjoy! So easy and flavorful!
What makes our Golden Milk so flavorful?
